Deichman Bjørvika / Oslo Public Library, Main Branch
Anne-Cath. Vestlys plass 1, Oslo, Oslo
Enjoy literature, art, films, lectures and more at Oslo's main library.
The new main branch of the Deichman Library is beautifully located in Bjørvika, right by Oslo's Opera House.
In addition to many thousands of books, the library contains a cinema, open workshops, cafés and ample space to relax, read and explore. The library also hosts lectures, courses, discussions, readings and activities for children.
From the top floor, you have a great view of the Oslo fjord. Here, you also find the Future Library, an art project stretching over one century which collects one manuscript a year from 100 authors. The manuscripts are stored, unread and inaccessible in the library. Only in 2114, the books will be printed and published.
Deichman has local libraries in many of Oslo's suburbs: Bjerke, Bøler, Bjørnholt, Furuset, Gamle Oslo, Grünerløkka, Holmlia, Lambertseter, Majorstuen, Nordtvet, Oppsal, Romsås, Røa, Smestad, Stovner and Torshov.
