The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has three cabins within the border og Bodø municipality. Two of them are close to the road.
Gjælentunet is 20 min drive south of Saltstraumen, by the sea. Row boat may be borrowed. Lurfjellhytta is behind the mountains you see across the fjord south of Bodø, close to Bodø's highest mountain peak. Very nice walk in from Åseli (11 km). Tverrbrennstua is at Beiarfjellet 1,5 hours drive from Bodø and close to the Saltfjellet-Svartisen national park.
